Mid 1970s Murphy's Mart Filler Pad. Yes I can't believe that I found this.

 

Hiya folks it's been awhile since the last post. Over six years at the very lest.

I've been a bit busy over the last few years on pro wrestling related projects. But I've got some new stuff in the works for Discount way 5/10 that I can't wait to show.

 Such as this 'Murphy's Mart Filler Pad' from the 1970s.

I've got both short and long form articles planed for this reopening. Ranging from advertisements to price tags.    

So lets get this show on the road again!

 

A Unopened pack of Playing cards from Fay's Drugs

So these are an unopened pack of Pinochle Playing Cards made in the 1980s for the long out of business Fay's Drugs chain of stores,This something I found when shopping at my local Thrift store one day and the funny thing is that I paid the same price on the tag for them 99 cents.

Former locations that I know about.

• Mayville New York Location has been open as a pharmacy for almost 100 years starting in the 1920s under many different names. It is currently a Rite aid.
• Yorkshire New York, location is currently a Rite aid.

Thrift stores finds Yarn edition.

So over the last few years I Have been finding a lot of old stuff at Thrift stores that pertains to my interests of retail history,as well as to get yarn for my mom to nit hats with.

Now the yarn itself is great but getting the labels is just as wonderful as we shall now see with these photos.

First up is a mid 1970s GC Murphy's Wimtuk Orlon acrylic Yarn.

Next up is a late 1970s Woolworth/Woolco Knitting Yarn as you can see it was 87 cents when it was brand  new and what is not shown in this pic is that the yarn was made by Monsanto. 

Note It was going for a 1.39 back in the 80s,Also note The 1980s JC Penney Reduced Red tag for 99 cents.

Who also made this next piece a mid 1980s JC Penney Soft.N.Safe Flame Retardant yarn,With two different tags on it.

Next up is a 1984 Ames Department Store Black acrylic yarn going for 59 cents made by National yarn crafts.

Note 49 cent Green tag is from the Thrift store I got it from.

Who also made This mid 1980s Hills department store Yarn going for a 1.17 back in the day.

I got one more piece of yarn label to show but that will be for a different post that will be posted later in the coming weeks.

Hello there It's been a Long time since I last did a post on this Blog,Well The Good news is that Discount way 5/10 is Back.

Price Tags of Old stores of the 1960s to the 80s-90s

Left to Right two 1964 Jamesway prices tags a FW Woolworth tag 80s a Revco tag 80s a Wheels Discount auto tag 1990 and a CT farm& family center price tag 80s-90s?

The Jamesway tags are from store 1 in lakewood ny .
Wheels Discount auto stores was a part of Fay's Drugs and was acquired by Parts America in the 90s And then Parts America was sold to Advance Auto Parts in the late 90s .
Revco Discount drugs stores was purchased by CVS Pharmacy in 1997.
CT Farm & Familly Center was a chain of farm stores that was in 8 to 14 states in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic in the 1970s to 2003 when the chain closed.
FW Woolworth  closed in 1997 .

Jamesway store 1 in lakewood ny

Jamesway store 1 in lakewood ny open 1961 closed 1982 or85

So this is Jamesway Store 1 on West Fairmount Avenue in lakewood ny  not Jamestown  it open in 1961 It got a facelift in the 1970s and it closed in 82 or 85 for a store in the Chautauqua Mall that is now an office max in the mall .
